Boris Kaplun Biography
Boris Kaplun was born in Moscow, Russia in 1958.
He studied visual arts at the famous Moscow Fine Arts Academy, where he majored in Scenic Design.
He participated in several exhibitions of artists from Moscow and from the Russian Federation.
In the 80’s Boris Kaplun worked with the gallery “Moscow Palette” and participated in the International Art Festivals
in Milan, Italy and Adelaide, Australia. Boris worked as a Scenic Designer for Moscow independent theaters.
He has had solo exhibitions in the Gallerie “Athena” in Compiègne, in the Maison des Terrois in Lagrasse (both in France),
“Anya Tish” Gallery and Russian Cultural Center in Houston, Texas.
In 2005 he participated in Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy.
Since 1996 he has made Houston his home and continuously works as an artist in the fields of
Painting, Muralist Artist; and Scenic Designer for local theaters.
Boris currently teaches his craft to students through his hands-on painting techniques.
Boris has designed and executed more than fifty productions in the greater Gulf Coast area
and his work has been seen at The Musical Theatre of Houston and Wortham Center’s Brown Theater,
Theatre LaB Houston, Main Street Theater, Main Street Youth Theater, Stages Repertory Theatre,
Annex Theatre at Stafford TX, and the Great Caruso Dinner Theater.
For more than a decade, Boris has designed Parade Floats for parades in Houston,
San-Antonio and Austin that have delighted thousands of parade audiences.
